WELCOME TO GRACE OPC!
On behalf of the session of Grace OPC, I want to extend our warmest greetings to you. It is my hope and prayer that as we gather together this Lord’s Day to worship our Triune God and Redeemer, you will be encouraged to cast your cares upon the Lord and to draw near to God by faith in His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. If you are new here in Fair Lawn, please join us for fellowship following the benediction, and be sure to sign our guestbook. We look forward to personally speaking with you, and if there are any prayer concerns in your heart, don’t hesitate to bring them to our attention.
Pastor John Keegan
This morning Mr. Kevin Vasquez will open God’s Word in Matthew 4:12-17, where we will hear of the Savior-King’s faithful fulfillment of his saving work to his covenant people and the nations, through the grace of repentance.
This afternoon in 2 Samuel 18:19-19:8, we will learn how a kingdom-mindedness mitigates our momentary sorrows and disappointments by enabling us to see the greater joy of Jesus’ enthronement over all creation.
Fellowship Luncheon Today: Here is a description of what to expect; following morning worship, we will hold our monthly fellowship luncheon. These delicious luncheons are a potluck meal. We ask everyone who is able to join us to please bring a main dish and a side dish, salad or dessert. Bring enough for you, your family and a friend!
Trinity Psalter Hymnal Singing: Stay after luncheon for singing of the Trinity Psalter Hymnal.
Announcement from the Session - Ruling Elder Candidates, Tyler Teschon and Kevin Vasquez Certified
The Session is pleased and thankful to announce that we have examined Tyler Teschon and Kevin Vasquez on their understanding, convictions and articulation of the system of doctrine contain in the Westminster Standards - derived from Holy Scripture; agreement with the Book of Church Order of
the OPC; and the biblical role and responsibilities of a ruling elder in shepherding Christ’s church.
The Session upon examining these two men and hearing of Kerith and Deborah’s support of Tyler and Kevin, respectively, in their potential calling as ruling elder, have certified that Tyler and Kevin “possess the necessary qualifications for office”:
Form of Government XXV.4. Any member of the congregation who is entitled to vote may propose to the session nominations for these offices. The session shall certify those nominees whom, upon examination, it
judges to possess the necessary qualifications for office. At least one Lord’s Day preceding the date appointed for the election the session shall announce to the congregation the names of those it has certified. Election shall be from among those certified.
The Session therefore is calling for a Special Congregational Meeting on the Lord’s Day, August 20, 2023, to hold an election “from among those certified” (ibid.) to be held immediately following the morning benediction (during the coffee hour).
